Digital Camera Buying Guide
Digital Camera Buying Guide
Digital Cameras
It can help to keep an eye out for brands such as Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus and Sony, but most important is making sure the camera is right for your uses. Physical camera size and the number of mega pixels should both be factors in your decision.
Digital Camera Optical Zoom
Unlike digital zoom, optical zoom works in the same way as a traditional camera and won't degrade the quality of the picture. This makes it a much more desirable feature when you need to bring subjects closer in the frame without a loss of resolution.
Memory cards
It's often a good idea to boost your available memory with an add-in memory card. They're available in a range of sizes to 4GB and beyond, but be sure to check whether your camera takes Compact Flash, Secure Digital, Memory Stick Pro Duo or another type.
Digital Camera Accessories
From replacement batteries to wide angle lenses, camera cases to tripods, there's loads of ways to get more from your camera. Whether your aim is better results or protecting your investment, you'll find what you're looking for in our accessories section.
Printers
While all colour printers will print your photos, a specialist photo printer, together with glossy paper, can produce incredible results. You can choose standard photograph sized paper, and print as many copies as you need, all from the comfort of home.
Digital Photo Frames
You have a number of options when it comes to displaying your photos. Printing to paper is a more traditional route, but digital picture frames offer a way to display multiple photos in a slideshow on a single frame.
Blank Media
Your pictures are often irreplaceable, so to avoid losing them you should always back up. Use blank CDs and DVDs to do this and keep them in a safe place. A CD will hold 700MB, while DVDs hold 4.5GB, or seven times as many photos.
Hard Drives
If you should find yourself running out of space for your pics, consider upgrading your computer's hard drive. External hard drives are portable and don't require opening up your computer, while internal drives are cheaper and won't clutter up your desk.
